Collaboration

Teamwork

Tell me about a time when you were working as a member of a team, and the team faced some kind of problem or challenge. Describe the task, the issue, and how your team resolved it.

This is project that will forever remain engrained in my mind. When I was in elementary school, I had a project for my English class to build the Elizabethan Theatre. My teacher believed that my group was more than capable to complete this task and I appreciated the confidence. Week after week, our project was going well until the time came to paint the theatre and apply the finishing touches. I will never forget the moment when one of my group members decided to take our 3 ft x 3ft project and spray paint the entire structure black. I was mortified. However, after having a small crying episode, I told my group member that I had brown paint to repaint the chairs and the wooden structures and red paint for the roof. After that was done, my friend’s father install a portable bulb in the theatre and in the end we earned an A+. This project thought me that in times of the unexpected, you should find solutions to continue rather than find a reason to quit.

Building networks

How have you expanded the circle of people you know since beginning college, both within and outside of Wesleyan? How have you been of service to this network of people? How have they helped you along the way?

I have to be immensely grateful to be a part of the swim team on campus because it has exposed me to 60+ teammates to interact with and learn from. Outside of the swim team, I have managed to form connections with my classmates and I can say that these connections grow stronger each day. As extroverted as I may appear to be, I value my personal time and the relationships that I have made acknowledge and respect this. Making new connections with strangers is a thrill and while these interactions may stay at the acquaintance level, putting myself out there is still impactful. As a swim instructor, it warms my heart that I am able to share my skills with my students and support them in their swim journey. As a friend, I understand that I have the ability to listen, offer advice and comfort my friends if they require that of me. Personally, I am not the most emotionally readable person so with every relationship I make, I extend the level of vulnerability I am able to show my friends.

Professionalism

In what ways have you proven yourself reliable to those with whom you’ve worked toward a common goal?
During my internship at BlackRock last summer, I worked with 5 other interns under the Aladdin Project Group. The project assigned to us was to analyze the progress of software developers using Azure DevOps. In addition to that, we needed to present our findings and solutions. Our task allowed everyone to focus on the end goal and because we were aware of our responsibilities, we successfully executed what was asked of us. The software we were using had certain technical terms that I familiarized myself with through my computer classes and Wesleyan. This allowed me to quickly identify and explain these concepts/terms to my group members if confusion was ever present .
