Cover Letter Writing
I was applying to a role at NBCUniversal and I needed advice for the structure and content of my cover letter. My first meeting with my peer advisor, I did not have a draft for my cover letter but when I told him my ideas and background, he gave me some feedback:
- Include not only the previous NBC experiences but those other than NBC like BlackRock
- Mention the connection my college program has to the NBC
- You paragraphs should be: Why You, Why Me and Why Us which made perfect sense
- Address the Hiring Manager if you do not know the recruiter.
So, on my second meeting with another peer advisor, I had my first draft ready for feedback and my advisor commended my ideas! It was mainly structural improvement of the ideas that occurred at our meeting. This was my first cover letter in a long time and with the feedback from both advisors, I felt good about my application.
